BAGUIO CITY –The
Baguio City Council has given a favorable review on a barangay ordinance that
allows giving of reward money to individuals who give information for
prosecution of any person violating the anti illegal drugs act of 2002.
The city
council approved Ordinance No. 2 Series of 2017 of Barangay Holy Ghost Proper
titled “An ordinance giving monetary reward to any person who gives information
leading to the prosecution of any person for violating certain acts enumerated
in Republic Act No. 9165 known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of
2002."
The village
ordinance said: “The war against drugs is a fight not only devolved to law
enforcement officers but to every member of the community. This fight will
never be won if we don’t recognize our duty as law abiding citizens to report
perpetrators of illegal drug activities.
We cannot
eradicate this drug menace if we cannot rally every member of the community to
be aware and cooperate with the anti drug campaign.”
The
barangay approved the amount of P10,000 to be included in the annual budget
allocation for the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council fund.
P2,000 will
be given as reward money to any informer who gives information leading to the
arrest and prosecution of any person violating the anti-drug law.
The
City Director of the Baguio City Police Office will issue a certification that
the informer gave information, which will be the basis for the release of the
reward money. The certification and identity of the person will be treated with
utmost confidentiality. -- Liza T. Agoot
