BAGUIO CITY -- The Emilio Aguinaldo Foundation has set
series of events and activities for the 119th anniversary of Philippine
Independence.

Sungtay III, the Philippine hero’s grandson, headed launching of “Lakbay Kasarinlan Festival, the
Road to Philippine Independence Day celebration”, in a media forum
at the Aguinaldo Museum here recently.
Sungtay cited
importance of Filipinos to be reminded once again on history of Philippine
Independence and importance of the first Philippine Flag to spur patriotism of
the Filipino people.
The celebration
opened May 28 with the Philippine Flag Day program at the Aguinaldo
Park that houses a museum on the history of Philippine Independence and where
the historic 1st Philippine Flag is on display.
The National Flag Day
will also open the Art Expo at the park showcasing artistic talents. This
will be in partnership with the Pasakalye Arts Community and will run up to
June 12. A bonfire night for organizers, guests and media practitioners will
cap the day.
There will also be
bazaar and food expo in partnership with the City Tourism Office.
A film expo of
patriotic films will also be featured in the festival through the Cinematheque
of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
For June 12 -
Independence Day, there will be a “Flag” Run with various categories such as
1km for kids, and 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K run for young adults and other health
buffs. Aside from promoting healthy living, the fun run also aimsto bring out
the patriotism of Filipinos.
The city government
will also spearhead an Independence Day program and fireworks on June 12.
Sungtay was joined in
the forum by festival partners- SM Baguio marketing manager John Rey Langit,
Baguio artist Roland Bay-an, City Tourism Office OIC Joma Rivera,
JT Gonzales also of the Aguinaldo Foundation and festival organizer Arvin
