BAGUIO CITY - - For winning the Kid Innovator category in the second
season search of Wyett Phils. Inc. in partnership with the
Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology, Baguio City National High
School student, Jericho Villarico, garnered for his school P100, 000 worth of
science and technology gadgets.
Villarico won with his “Auto – Call Doorknob”, an e –
gadget attached to a home/house doorknob that automatically alerts its owner of
possible illegal intrusion with a phone call.
The awarding ceremony was held at CAP Convention Ceremony
at Camp John Hay with Wyett nutrition communications head Anne Michele Pador
and PFST Executive Director May Pagsinohin awarding the prize to Jericho, who
was accompanied by his parents and younger sister and BCNHS Principal Romulo
Flora.
In the same event, Pador headed launching of the 2017
Search for Wyett Nutrition Kid Innovators. This is open to kids ages 5 to 14
years old who love Science and are interested in making a difference through
innovation.
The search has two categories- the “Upcoming Kid
Innovators” for kids ages 5 – 8 years old and the “Kid Innovators” category for
9 – 14 years old. Upcoming Kid Innovators category can pupil
– parent tandem while the “Kid Innovators” category may be individual or
team. Entries in both categories must be supervised by a coach or teacher
– adviser.
For this third season of the search, grand prizes for the
Upcoming Kid Innovators category include a cash prize of P25, 000 and P25, 000
worth of science books and education toys.
For Kid Innovators, at stake are P100, 000 cash
prize and P100, 000 worth of of S&T showcase for their school.
The coach or
adviser of the winning kid innovators in both categories will also receive cash
prize of P10, 000.
Entries must include filled – up application form,
written brief documenting scientific processes and 2 to 3 minutes video
presentation that should be e – mailed at kidinnovator@wyettnutrition.com on or before June 30. Wyett Nutrition will be screening entries
alongside with PFST.
Pador called all parents and educators to encourage their
children or students to join in the nationwide search. She also encourages the
awarding ceremony participants, composed of representatives from DOST, DepEd
and private educational institutions and media practitioners, to help spread
awareness of the search for Kid Innovators, which aims to help nurture every
child’s potential for greatness and mold them into society’s future nation
leaders.
