BANGUED, Abra -- The
Department of Public Works and Highways is moving to
address transport problem of communities in towns across Baay
River following collapse of Baay Bridge due to the typhoons that
hit the province last year.
Engineer
Edwin Bringas, head of maintenance section of the DPWH– Abra Engineering
District Office, said residents in upland municipalities will be relieved soon
since bailey panels from Bataan will brought to Abra very soon for the
construction of a bailey bridge to ease transport woes.
Bringas
said the DPWH – regional and central offices already conducted inspection of
the Baay Bridge in preparation for re-bidding of construction project since the
first bidding was a failure.
The Baay
Bridge is a component of the Abra-Cervantes National Road located in Brgy. Bio,
Lagangilang.
The said
road is the major road network that services the municipalities of Bucay,
Sallapadan, Bucloc, Daguioman, and Tubo and up to the municipalities of Quirino
and Cervantes in Ilocos Sur as well as to the Mountain Province.
Rep. Joseph
Sto. Niño Bernos said he directed the DPWH to hasten bidding and
construction of the Baay Bridge to facilitate the smooth flow of transportation
along the Abra-Cervantes Road. -- PIA-Abra
