Ilocos Sur launches ‘Intayon 2018’ homecoming

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — The provincial government of Ilocos Sur launched “Intayon 2018” in kicking-off its preparation for the grand celebration of the bicentennial foundation anniversary of the province next year.
“Intayon 2018,” which in Ilokano means “Let’s go back home,” aims to reach residents of Ilocos Sur who are now abroad to come back home and participate in the observance of the 200th year anniversary of the province on February 2, 2018.
It was on Feb. 2, 1818, when a Spanish royal decree was issued declaring the separation of Ilocos Norte from Ilocos Sur.
“Like the branches of a tree, our lives may grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. Call it a clan, a tribe, a family, whoever you are, you still need to look back where you came from,” said Governor Ryan Luis Singson, as he invited those who are now abroad to join him for the 200th year anniversary of the province.
Even this early, the provincial government is preparing for the grand celebration of the foundation day of Ilocos Sur.
The event’s highlight is the Grand Global Reunion on Feb. 2, 2018, but the whole stretch of the activity is in time with the “Kannawidan” celebration to showcase the beauty and rich culture of Ilocos Sur.

“Others say that there is no other sweeter moment than to return home. Who can resist going back to the province of Ilocos Sur where childhood memories, fruits of sacrifices, and success served as your first base? 2018 will be a grand year for the province of Ilocos Sur in celebration of its 200th year foundation anniversary,” Singson said.
