BAGUIO CITY --
Fifty-four-year-old barangay health worker Remedios Galingao of Pasil town in
Kalinga emerged as the winner of this year’s search for the Most Outstanding
Pantawid Pamilya Parent Leader award of the Department of Social Welfare and
Development Cordillera.
The search, being held
for the first time, aims to recognize outstanding Pantawid Pamilya Parent
Leaders who volunteer and foster as models of excellence in their households,
groups, and communities. They are co-beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid
Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
DSWD-CAR officer
in charge Janet Armas said the parent leaders contribute to the success of the
4Ps program in the Cordillera.
Prior to the
regional search, the DSWD conducted provincial searches.
Seven emerged as
regional contenders that included Remedios Galingao who was later on declared
as regional winner.
Galingao, during
the regional awarding said she was happy for winning the contest, adding she will
continue to become a role model not only to her co-parent leaders but most
specially to the beneficiaries of the 4Ps and to religiously follow and abide
by the policy of the program.
Galingao became
a beneficiary of the government’s 4Ps in 2009 and since then she became an
active member-beneficiary until she was chosen as the parent leader in 2014 in
their barangay.
Galingao received a
championship trophy, certificate and cash prize for emerging as the top winner.
Next to Galingao was Shirley Hernia-Guab of Baguio City (1st runner up),
Rodelia Mateo of Apayao (2nd runner up) and Juiliana Bambilla of Abra (3rd
runner up). All three received a trophy and cash prize.
The other
nominees for the regional search were Esther Bantasan of Benguet, Betty Manzano
of Ifugao, and Marina Pespes of Mountain Province.
Bantasan,
Manzano and Pespes received a certificate and P2,000 each as consolation prize
for qualifying in the regional level. -- PNA
