PDP exec: Federalism balances gov’t political, economic power

LAGAWE, Ifugao – “So why federalize the Philippines? The primary objective is to balance distribution of government powers and to balance the distribution of government budget.”
Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laka sng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Laguna Chapter Chair, former Laguna governor Emilio Ramon Ejercito emphasized  this during the recent Ifugao 51st founding anniversary and 2017 Gotad Ad Ifugao Grand Program at the Lagawe Plaza. 
Ejercito urged Ifugao people to support push for federalism, particularly the Nene Pimentel model, which aims to balance distribution of political and economic power across the regions.
He also outlined other objectives of the federal government that includes bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, stopping Muslim rebel repression and communist insurgencies, protection of socio cultural diversity, and empowerment of the Filipino people.
He said former Senator Nene Pimentel, Senate President  Koko Pimentel, former Dept. of Budget and Management Sec. Salvador Enriquez, Dr. Jose Abueva, Justice Reynato Puno, former Vice President Teofisto Guingona, former DILG Secretary Rafael Alunan, and former Finance Secretary MargaritoTeves are among members of 25-man consultative committee formed through Executive Order 10 Series of 2016 signed by President Duterte on December 7, 2016.

The committee is tasked to create the final draft of the federal form of government for the Republic of the Philippines. --PIA CAR
