  Army troops find NPA camp in Abra

SALLAPADAN, Abra -- Military troops of Northern Luzon Command discovered an encampment used by the New People’s Army guerillas here in Sitio Mabungtot, Barangay Ud-udiao on July 1.
Lt. Col. Isagani Nato, Nolcom spokesperson said the NPA (NPA) campsite was found while Army soldiers of the 24th Infantry Battalion of Joint Task Force Kaugnay were conducting operations.
He said the abandoned encampment about a hundred square meters was located in a densely vegetated area that can accommodate 18 NPA rebels.
 at the encampment were personal belongings of female NPA members, medicine, and food sachets.
Nato said Nolcom troops will continue to keep “enemies of the state on the run to deprive them of the opportunity to recruit new members, extort from the people and execute hostile plans that will endanger the lives of the security forces and the civilians.”
 Nato said Nolcom recognizes the important role of the community to make the counter-insurgency effort more sustainable and meaningful in attaining lasting peace.

Mayor Salda graces awarding of cops

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet  – In line with the nationwide Police Community Relations Month celebration themed “Tapat at Paglilingkod ng Kapulisan Kaagapay ang Mamamayan, Hatid ay Kaunlaran,”  the regional police ceremony here was graced by La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda as guest of honor and speaker.
Highlight of the program was awarding of medals to 10 cops for arresting wanted persons.
Awardees were personnel of Baguio City Police Office: PCI Nicomedes A. Olarte III, SPO4 Allan M Pilloy, SPO1 Selvi A. Codangos, PO3 Eric B. Banian, and PO2 Pink Pearl A. Kayachen.
Benguet provincial police officers were also awarded: PCI Benzon B. Macli-ing. SPO1Arnold G. Danggan,  PO3 Donald B. Buteng and PO1 Joni D. Ballatong.
NUP Mendy Egtapen of Benguet PPO was awarded the same for her significant contribution in outstanding rating of Provincial Investigation Division Management Branch, Benguet PPO.

Authorities nab fake bills mafia

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Authorities in Bauang town nabbed a member of a syndicate using fake money bills in the public market of Barangay Central West, Bauang, La Union on Wednesday.
Chief Insp. Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union’s police information officer, identified the suspect as Diomedes C. Aquino, 48, single, a resident of from Barangay Balete, San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
Seized from him were four pieces of  P1,000 bills and one piece P500 of counterfeit bills with some bearing Serial Numbers SNQG135704 and PL584980 which police believes were exchanged or copied from genuine serial bills.
Aside from fake bills, Aquino yielded one sachet of suspected shabu during the search.
According to Barangay Kagawad Oliver B. Agcaioli, they apprehended Aquino for using the fake bills to buy basic commodities at the market.
Aquino was chased and others of his gang were escaped.
It was also learned that Aquino has pending case for same violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or possession of counterfeit bills in Camiling Tarlac City.
The suspect was detained at Bauang police station jail for proper disposition. -- Erwin Beleo

6 suspects nabbed for illegal guns 

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – Police arrested six persons in the Cordillera last week for five illegal guns and 57 assorted ammunition.
Two suspects were arrested at Bangued checkpoint namely Philip Garrata Billedo and Roderick Apuya Pilarta while aboard a motorcycle.
Confiscated from the suspects was a Cal. 38 revolver without ammunition protruding from the waist of  Pilarta.
Another suspect arrested by personnel of Lamut, Ifugao police identified as Efrenio Dumar Tomolnoc II of Bocos, Banaue, Ifugao.
Suspect was made to stop in a checkpoint along the national road at Poblacion, Lamut, Ifugao. When he opened his sling bag to get his driver’s license, a Cal.38 was seen inside.
 Two suspects were arrested were also nabbed identified as Rex Aquilino Pondag aka “Cabib Abance Pondag” at Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet. Confiscated from them was a Cal. 45; two magazines and 20 bullets.
In Tabuk, arrested was Warren Oddoc Cadater  in Purok 6, Bulanao. Confiscated from Cadater was a Cal. 45 handgun and 16 bullets.
In Baguio City, Dionicio Gloruso Tauro, 31 was nabbed for illegal discharge o f firearm evening of July 1 at No.199 Purok 4 Middle Rock Quarry. H
Confiscated from, him was an improvised handgun with two 12 gauge ammunition.

Female resto worker killed in Tabuk collision

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A young female restaurant worker was killed when the motorcycle she was driving collided with a van here Wednesday around  2:55 p.m. at Barangay Agbannawag, Tabuk City, fronting Aguirre residence.
The Mitsubishi L300 van was driven by Pangya Gannise Banot, 41, farmer and resident here of Madopdop, Lacnog.
Meanwhile, the Honda XRM 125owned by Joel Aguirre was driven by Sharlyn Parilla Fonnecer, 25, married, of Agbannawag, Tabuk with back rider Marvin Patongan Maga-ao, 29, farmer of Casigayan, Bulo, Tabuk City.
Investigation showed the motorcycle was traversing the national road at Agbannawag while the van was headed out to the national road from the compound of Aguirre residence and upon reaching the highway, the collision happened at the east lane of the road. As a result Fonnecer suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival by attending physician at Kalinga Provincial Hospital while her companion was hurt on different parts of his body. The driver of van was unhurt. The van incurred damages the motorcycle was wrecked.
The van driver was taken into custody by police while the vehicles were impounded.

OFW shot dead at wedding party

STO. DOMINGO, Ilocos Sur -- A vacationing overseas Filipino worker was killed while his three relatives were wounded in a shooting that broke out during a wedding party here shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Florante Tabuso, 36, died at the scene while Palmie Susa, 36; Liezel Agcamaran, 33, and Joshua Rubang, 10, were taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
The victim and the suspect, identified as Police Officer 2 Jun Christopher Briones of the Special Action Force were guests at the house of a certain Renato Antonio in Barangay Naglaoa-an.
Tabuso and Briones, who were cousins, reportedly had a long standing grudge, according to Senior Insp. Robert Valiente, town police chief.
Briones approached Tabuso’s group and offered a handshake, which the latter reportedly refused.
A quarrel broke out between them and resulted in the shooting.
Briones fled after the incident.
Probers recovered seven bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol. – Raymund Catindig

Driver arrested for hit-and-run

PINUKPUK, Kalinga – A driver here is now in hot water after his vehicle hit an old lady in a hit and run incident here around 4: 30 along National Road in front of Rogelio Galope Residence at Barangay Cawagayan.
The vehicle was identified as Isuzu Crosswind with plate number TUI-292 driven by Edward Gongora Lumiwan, of Sitio Sapote, Barangay Junction, Pinukpuk while victim was identified as Feliza Danggalan Masaway, of Barangay Cawagayan. The victim was brought by the concerned citizen to Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medical attention.
Investigation disclosed the victim was walking alone at the national road towards their house when she was hit by said speeding vehicle. The driver abandoned the victim and fled towards Tabuk City.
Lumiwan was intercepted by police along the national road at Barangay Calanan and turned over to Tabuk Bulanao Police Sub-Station for Investigation. The suspect was reportedly involved again in another hit and run incident at Barangay New Tanglag, Tabuk After hitting Masaway.

 Foreigners nabbed in anti-drugs ops

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Two foreigners – an American and an Australian -and their local accomplice were arrested last week during an anti-illegal drugs operation conducted by joint operatives of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 3, Angeles City Drug Enforcement Unit and Angeles City Police Office Station 4 in Angeles City.
Reports received by Chief Supt Amador V Corpus, regional director, said that his men, led by Supt Rommel Batangan, chief of DEU in the region, conducted the operations which resulted in the arrest of Gary Timothy Lamb, a retired US Navy, and presently residing at Pinatubo St. Clarkview, Barangay Malabanias, Angeles City; Wayne Michael, 58, a retired Australian engineer of Baangay Balibago, Angeles City and Mary Jane Mina of Sta. Maria also of Balibago. Confiscated from the suspects were six plastic sachets of shabu; three medium size sachets of dried marijuana leaves, a marked five hundred peso bill, and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Appropriate charges for violation of RA 9165 were filed against the suspects.
“We keep on conducting proactive operations to wipe out all forms of illegal drugs in the region and we will not stop until we have arrested all those who are engaged in the illegal drugs trade, either locals or foreigners, to achieve our quest for a drug-free Central Luzon,” said Gen Corpus. -- Mar Supnad

 Arms cache, food supply of NPAs found in Tinoc

TINOC,Ifugao -- Soldiers of the 54th Infantry Battalion discovered an arms cache and food supply of suspected New People’s Army guerillas here at Sitio Acwawan, Barangay Binablayan July 1.
Found were a Cal. 22 with magazine, rifle grenade high explosive,  sack of rice, 35 packs of noodles, 10 cans of sardines, two cans of condensed milk and three packs of sky flakes biscuit.

One killed in drug busts, 14 arrested

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Authorities killed a drug pusher and arrested 14 others in different drug raids in Bulacan Wednesday.
Reports reaching the Police Regional Office 3 identified the fatality as Valentino Calip Y Umipig Alias “Jun” also known as “Fajad”, 54, resident of Madrid St. Ciudad Grande Subd. Barangay Lawa, City of Meycauayan, Bulacan.
According to the report, an armed encounter ensued between the operatives of Meycauayan Police and Alias “Jun” after a consummated drug deal inside his residence in Meycauayan City in the afternoon of July 3.
Recovered from his possession were five heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected “shabu”; one Cal. 38 revolver with three live ammunition and three fired cartridges of Cal. 38; four Cal. 9mm fired cartridge case; one Cal. 5.56 fired cartridge case; two pieces of deformed fired bullets, one metallic fragment; buy-bust money and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, 14 other drug suspects including a minor were arrested in different anti-illegal drugs operations conducted in the cities of San Jose Del Monte and Malolos and the towns of San Miguel, Obando, Balagtas, Marilao, Bocaue, and Plaridel.
The arrested suspects were identified as 1) Kizeah Joy Camino Y Bueno Alias “Shana”; 2) Jayson Gutlay Y Penetrante; 3) Dexter Pascua Y Octera; 4) Dennis Perez Y Agapito; 5) Rommel Carlo Sarmiento Y Manuel; 6) Julius Mabini Y Condi Alias “Julius”; included in Malolos Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) watchlist as pusher/user; 7) Reynaldo Bernardo Y Capino A.K.A. “Totot”; 8) Jesus Francisco Y Escuban Alias “Jessie”; 9) Antonio Manreza Y Ramos; 10) Aldwin Dela Cruz Bantog Alias “Odo”; 11) Edcil Napay Y Hermano @ Jojo; 12) Armando Flores Y De Guzman Alias “Tute”; 13) Fernando Vilolenta Y Valdez, and 14) a 17-year-old minor.
Confiscated during the sting were sixty-four (64) pieces heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected “shabu”; buy-bust money and assorted drug paraphernalia. Appropriate criminal complaints against the arrested suspects are now being filed before the City/Provincial Prosecutors Office of Bulacan. -- Franco Regala

 ‘Akyat Bahay Gang’ member caught on CCTV arrested

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A suspected “Akyat Bahay Gang” member who was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) fleeing the apartment of a Korean national in Angeles City, this province, was arrested by police last week.
Police said Reden Nanqui, 45, of 5024 Prince Balagtas St., Barangay Sta. Teresita, Angeles City was collared by a patrol team of the city’s Police Station 4 (PS-4).
The arresting officers allegedly recovered from Nanqui the Apple iPhone worth P50,000 which was stolen earlier in the day from the apartment unit of Don G. Hwa Ryu, a Korean national, in Barangay Anunas, Angeles City.
Investigators said that based on the CCTV footage taken outside the victim’s apartment, it was Nanqui who was seen fleeing the crime scene after the burglary.
The suspect is now detained at the PS-4 detention cell, pending charges of burglary. -- Franco Regala

 Illegally cut lumber seized in Jaen, NE

FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija – At least 15, 000 board feet of illegally sawn lumbers were confiscated by military troops here last week, the Northern Luzon Command said.
Lt. Col Isagani Nato, NOLCOM spokesperson said that Task Force Sagip Likas Yaman together with the 70th Infantry (Cadre) Battalion of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID) seized the logs in Barangay Langla, Jaen during joint operation led by Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources regional director Paquito T. Moreno Jr.
The joint operation on anti-illegal logging composed of DENR, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) – Nueva Ecija and Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office (NEPPO) and Jaen Municipal Police Station was launched to act on the reports of the residents about the frequent and suspicious transport of timber and logs in large volume at the JEDF Construction and Trading.
7ID units also received several information on the illegal activity and coordinated with the DENR and PNP, according to Nato.
The combined forces of the said government agencies proceeded to the reported area Friday afternoon to serve the search warrant to the owner of JEDF Construction and Trading.
“During the search, large volume of illegally cut assorted lumber were uncovered at the area,” Nato said.
The confiscated illegally cut lumbers were hauled and handed to DENR for proper disposition, he added.
It was later discovered that the owner and workers of the business firm sensed that they will be apprehended and that they attempted to conceal the illegally cut lumbers but failed to do so due of the large volume of the logs.
Major General Felimon T Santos Jr AFP, Commander, 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army said that 7ID, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation to the concerned residents of the barangay for giving information on the illegal activity.
“We thanked the residents for tipping us about illegal activities.We will never allow anybody to destroy the environment,” he said. -- Franco Regala
