Cops nab gunman barangay tanod


PENNARUBIA, Abra – The gunman of the riding-in-tandem who shot a tricycle driver was arrested here in Barangay Dumayco early morning of Sept. 6.
Suspect was identified as Delinger Diawan Omnas, 33, barangay tanod, and a resident of Dumayco while the victim was identified as Michael Buena Verzosa, 38, tricycle driver, and a resident of Zone 4, Bangued, Abra.
Suspect and victim are both drug surrenderees of Penarubia, Abra and are undergoing drug rehabilitation but the victim dropped out from the program by intentionally absenting himself from rehabilitation activities.
 Prior to the incident, the victim was onboard his motorcycle and was about to buy food along Natividad St., Zone 2, Bangued  when suddenly two male suspects riding-in-tandem shot him at the left side of his body.
As a result, the victim sustained a lone gunshot wound and was rushed to the Abra provincial hospital for medical treatment while the suspects immediately escaped. The suspect and the victim had an altercation while playing basketball a few days before the shooting incident.  
Police recovered one slug and one fired cartridge from a Cal. 45 pistol. 
 Bangued police conducted speedy investigation and pursuit operations that resulted in the arrest of Omnas.
He is now under the custody of Bangued MPS and a case of frustrated homicide was filed against him at the prosecutor’s office.
