Truck rams Ifugao crowd; 1 dead, 7 hurt
BONTOC, Mountain
Province – Four persons were killed when the vehicles they were riding crashed
in Sabangan and Sadanga towns in the province last week.
In Sabangan,
Corazon Dongpiwen, 54 and Hilda Longao, 56 died in the vehicular accident early
morning Wednesday at Tambingan Road in the town.
Five were
injured in the land cruiser driven by Joel Marcos.
His wife
Estela and children Leonora, Joela and Rhyma were injured.
All seven
passengers including the driver were rushed to Luis Hora Memorial Hospital in
Bauko for treatment.
Meanwhile, in
Sadanga, a day earlier on Tuesday, two persons were killed while two passengers
were injured when the vehicle they were riding in fell down a ravine around 6
p.m. at Macamcamamar, Poblacion.
Responding
cops, firemen and volunteers brought the victims to Bontoc General Hospital
where driver Charlie Dangiwan Domao-il, 34 of Barangay Sacasacan here was
pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Christine Ofilas.
A few minutes
later, Johnson Kawi Faroden was also declared dead by Ofilas
while Christian D. Copas and Faustino Balso were diagnosed as having
multiple injuries.
Police
investigation bared the Mitsubishi pick-up with registered plate no. AHE 400 fell
down a 50-meter deep ravine.
The vehicle
was descending when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Passing students of
Sangey National Technical Vocational School who saw the incident relayed this
to police who announced it on the public loudspeaker system installed at the
police station that prompted residents to rescue the victims.
In Kiangan,
Ifugao, a man died while seven others were injured when a dump truck plowed
into a crowd in front of a convenience store here in Sitio Danghay, Barangay
Bolog earlier on Monday.
Eddie
Dupingay, 55, died at the scene. The injured were taken to various hospitals
for treatment.
Initial
investigation showed the driver of the dump truck lost control of the wheel
when the vehicle developed mechanical problem at around 5:45 p.m.
The truck
driver, Marlon Tucay, 23, surrendered to responding policemen.
