Pangasinan bocap shot dead after Typhoon Ompong meet

SAN JACINTO, Pangasinan — A barangay captain in this town was gunned down on Tuesday.
Edward Ronquillo of Barangay Bolo was driving his motorcycle on his way home when he was shot.
Senior Insp. Mark Ryan Taminaya, San Jacinto police chief, said Ronquillo had just attended a meeting at the municipal hall on the damage wrought by Typhoon Ompong when he was shot in Barangay Capaoay at around 2 p.m.
Police are still trying to determine motive of the crime with politics high on the list.
A manhunt for the suspect identified by a witness as Christian Bandarlipe is underway. – Eva Visperas   

 NPA rebels harass army Nueva Ecija patrol base

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — A band of New People’s Army  rebels harassed a patrol base of the army’s 70th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Labi, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija on Monday.
Major Ericson C. Bulosan, Northern Luzon Command spokesman, confirmed that around 10 armed members of the NPA’s Kilusang Sierra Madre fired at the patrol base at 11:20 a.m. Monday.
Bulosan said there were no casualties on the government side and that the troopers were able to return fire and establish their combat position.
He said the rebels, who had positioned themselves about 500 meters away from the army’s patrol base, immediately withdrew from the site.
He said that all patrol bases of the said army unit are on the move to conduct combat and pursuit operations.

 Man accused of raping stepdaughter

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan — Police filed charges last week against a laborer who allegedly raped his 14-year-old stepdaughter in Gonzaga, Cagayan on Sept. 13.
The victim told police the suspect asked her to sleep at his house to wait for a video call from her mother through his cell phone, who works in Saudi Arabia.
She said her stepfather asked her to wait for the call in his room, where the alleged rape occurred at around 2 a.m. – Raymund Catindig 

3 motorbikes collide; woman killed 

STA. MARCELA, Apayao – A woman was killed while four others were hurt here Sept. 11 when three motorcycles collided around 12:30 p.m. along the San Carlos baangay road.
The casualty was identified as Carmen Taneca who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Sta. Marcela District Hospital by Dr. Talla.
The first vehicle was driven by Andy Millandres Anabesa, 34 with his three back riders: Norly Diego Taneca; Carmen Taneca, 53 and Richmond Taneca, 2 all of Barangay Malekkeg.
The second motorcycle was driven by Erick Cabaltica Pascual, 15, Grade 10 student with back rider Rexter Natividad Quilario, 17.
The third was driven by Dominic Labayug Guzman, 16 with his backrider Ronnie Galla, 14, of Paracelis, Mt. Province.  All drivers involved didn’t have driver’s licenses.
Investigation disclosed the three motorcycles were travelling the same lane along from Barocboc going to San Carlos, all of Santa Marcela. 
 Before they reached the national highway, the first vehicle turned left going to the public market but failed to make a signal. The second tried to overtake but sideswept the steering bar of the third motorcycle.
                The third which was following also collided with the first motocycle.
                The driver of the first vehicle and his two back riders suffered injuries and were rushed to SMDH where Taneca was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the third vehicle suffered injuries and was also rushed to same hospital. The driver of the second vehicle and back rider were unharmed. All motorcycles were damaged.

Farmer loses P57-K gadgets to car thief

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A farmer lost around P57 worth of gadgets to thieves who opened his Pajero vehicle while it was parked night of Sept. 11.
A police report said the incident happened at here at km 6 along the Halsema Highway based on complaint of victim  Noel Bellao Balegan, 54 married against still unidentified suspect.
Investigation showed that the victim parked his green Pajero with plate number UMS 798 beside First Pacific Hardware around 9 p.m.
Around 6:30 a.m. he next day, the victim was about to use his vehicle when he noticed that the right rear window of the baggage area was opened.
He found out that a Lenovo Laptop worth ₱48,000, projector worth ₱14,600 and assorted tools worth ₱5,000 placed inside  were missing. The thieves removed the lock of the window of the baggage area and used it as a point of entry then exited at the door after taking the above stated items.
Responding cops lifted two fingerprints in the car.
Result of video footage of CCTV camera installed at nearby establishment was not released by police at presstime.

 Woman drowns in Ilocos Sur

SAN ESTEBAN, Ilocos Sur — The body of a woman was found washed ashore in Barangay Villa Quirino, San Esteban, Ilocos Sur on Monday, police said.
Police said the victim was later identified as Jane delos Reyes, a native of Orion, Bataan, who as reported to have allegedly jumped off the sea wall near her residence in Barangay San Pablo, this town last Sunday night.
It was learned that Delos Reyes was drunk and when she jumped into the sea, but probers were still investigating whether there was foul play in her death. – Freddie Lazaro

 Two men stabbed, mauled by man, 60

TINOC, Ifugao – Two men were stabbed and mauled by a 60-year-old man here Sept. 12 around 5:30 p.m.
Victims were named as Singa Edward Dayao, 67, widow and Anthony Edward Dayao, 44, married, both farmers and  residents of Landing, Poblacion.
A police report said they wee stabbed and mauled by Rodolfo Magarro Libao, married, farmer,of Sudipen, La Union and a resident of Landing, Poblacion, Tinoc.
Investigation disclosed the victims and suspect attended a gathering at the residence of Roger Dayao when misunderstanding ensued between them.
The suspect suddenly stabbed Singa Dayao using a kitchen knife and mauled Anthony Dayao respectively.
Victims were rushed to Tinoc District Hospital for medical attention while the suspect was turned over by his relative to Tinoc police station.
Cops found a kitchen knife used by the suspect at the crime scene.

 Young man held for violence  

BAGUIO CITY -- A young man was nabbed here at Cypress, Irisan Sept. 12 for violation of Republic Act 9262 (violence against women and children).
Arrested was Kennen Vhern Bey-agan Ulzano, 25, of Ambagiw, Besao, Mountain, Province and resident at Sagada Village Purple 14, Cypress Irisany.
His, after judge Ivan Kim B. Morales of RTC Branch 59, Baguio City issued warrant against him seting bail of ₱40,000 for his temporary liberty.

 TRUCK LOSES BRAKES AT LONGLONG ROAD; 3 HURT

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three persons were injured when a truck going down Longlong Road here in Barangay Puguis  hit another truck, then rammed a commercial building where it stopped Sept. 12 around 10:30 a.m.
Investigation showed that a forward wing van truck with plate number RLU 753 driven by Ryan Raganas Montealto, 37 experienced loose brakes while descending Longlong Roadso it hit another van truck driven by Richard Ricalde Araiz, 39.
As a result, the injured were brought to the Benguet General Hospital by the responding fire and medical personnel.
Hurt were Analyn Sambo Orden, 33 and Danilo Torcuato Galvez, 59 while Montealto was brought by a concerned citizen to Cordillera Divine Grace Hospital.

4 hurt as trike hits child in Bangued

BANGUED, Abra – Three persons riding a tricycle were hurt when their vehicle hit a child crossing a road here Sept. 12 at around 4:30 p.m. at Zone 7 in front of Alunday Metal Works.
Investigation disclosed Herminigildo Siganay Daoala, 48 was driving his tricycle with his four passengers Diane Lim Mariano, 40; Hilda Mariano, 15; Jamal Daoala, 9 and Prince Daoala, 2, all of Poblacion, Langiden town traversing the Abra-Kalinga highway when one Rishelle Yoanna Ria Balmaceda Magala, 7 suddenly crossed the road.
The tricycle driver tried to evade the child but still accidentally bumped her that made the tricycle out of control making it go directly into the canal.
Magala was fractured on her collar bone among other injuries and was brought to Seares Hospital for treatment while Diane Lim Mariano and Hilda Mariano were wounded and brought to Abra Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Female BSU student hit, hurt while crossing road

BAGUIO CITY – A female student of Benguet State University was injured when she was hit by a motorcycle here along Lower Magsaysay Road Sept. 12 around 8 a.m. in front of Supreme Hotel at a pedestrian lane.
The victim named Venus Balawag Gayudan, 24, 4th year BS Agriculture student was hit by motorcycle driven by Ronald Supsupin Cabero, 31, a chief and resident of Cruz La Trinidad, Benguet.
The victim was brought to Pines City Doctor's Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigation disclosed the motorcycle went to the opposite lane then hit the victim. Due to strong impact, the motorcycle swerved to the outer opposite lane then collided with a passenger jeep driven by Manuel Olyem Wayan, 37, of Poal, Atok, Benguet who was head to La Trinidad.

 Young man goes hunting; found dead

TUBA, Benguet – The body of a young man was found here Sept. 11 around 6:30 a.m. by a certain Buddy Cabrera Jr., senior citizen along Panglaw creek, in km 6, Asin Road, Barangay Tadiangan.
The cadaver was identified by his relatives as Kenneth Magapit Nadiahan, 26 resident of the area.
 Investigation disclosed on Sept. 1, around 8 p.m., the victim informed his relatives that he will go hunting along Panglaw Creek. However, the victim was found dead the following day.
Police investigators headed by Chief Insp. Lord Epio De Mesa said cause of death of the victim was due to head injury.
The family of the victim said cause of death was accidental and refused an autopsy.

 Worker painting bridge electrocuted

TAYUM, Abra – A construction worker was electrocuted here Sept. 12 around 11:20 a.m. while painting steel braces of the Don Mariano Marcos Bridge.
Police named the victim as Joseph Atendido, 24, of Barangay Bumagcat.
Investigation disclosed the victim fell down as a result and rushed to Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Felino Burgos Jr.
