Widow, 74 killed after falling off Sabangan road

SABANGAN, Mountain Province – A 74-year-old widow was killed here Monday after she fell off a 40-meter deep ravine along the Halsema Road at Sitio Gotong, Barangay Busa. The victim was found around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday by police after they were informed through cell phone about the incident by an unnamed caller.
A certain Leo Pinengeo identified the victim as his mother Mary Maslang Pinengeo of Poblacion. Investigation disclosed the victim was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and was rushed at Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital in Bauko town but pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. Man slashed on neck inside videoke bar; dies

BAGUIO CITY – A 42-year-old man was slashed on the neck and other parts of his body inside the D’ Winer’s Videoke Bar at the basement of Tahan Building, Kayang Hilltop around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and later died on the road when he went out to seek assistance.
The victim was identified as Fausto Vargas Damulo, married, and residing at Balite, Long Long, Pinsao Proper. The victim’s attacker is still unidentified.     
Investigation disclosed the victim approached mobile car 87 of Police Station 7 manned by P02 Jefree Tacata parked at the loading area of Pinsao jeep terminal but stumbled on the pavement.
P02 Tacata immediately approached the victim and noticed blood oozing from his neck that prompted him to call for assistance from his companions. The victim was immediately boarded to the mobile car and he was rushed to the Emergency Medical Services facility for first aid before he was brought to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for medical treatment.
However, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival by his attending physician due to slash wound on his neck, stab wound on his left chest and left arm. The cadaver of the victim was still at the Emergency Room of the hospital at press time since family members have not yet arrived.
Investigators responded at the place of incident and found the suspected weapon used in the crime inside the comfort room.

Village exec nabbed for rifle, ammunition

TUGUEGARAO CITY -- A barangay councilman and his companion were caught transporting a rifle and ammunition in Solana, Cagayan on Jan. 26.
Police identified the suspects as Marlon Millo, 35, of Barangay Gadu, and Jeffrey Baysa, 30.
Reports said the suspects were in a sport utility vehicle when they were pulled over by police officers manning a checkpoint of the Commission on Elections in Barangay Gadu.
Millo and Baysa were charged for violating the gun ban imposed by the Comelec in connection with the holding of the midterm elections. – Raymund Catindig

 2 nabbed for gun, bullets in Paracelis

PARACELIS, Mountain Province –Two persons were arrested by police here around 8:10 a.m. of Jan. 27 when they implemented a search warrant  at the residence of a certain Jovy B. Cailin in Bananao Proper.
The operation resulted to Cailin’s arrest and confiscation of three long magazines for M16 rifle, three short magazines for M16 rifle, four bullets for M14 rifle and one shoulder holster for caliber .45 pistol.
Prior to the search, one of the barangay kagawads who was supposed to be a witness identified as Frederick Cailin Doot was also arrested for possession of Cal.38 revolver tucked in his waist loaded with five bullets. The arrested persons and confiscated items were brought to the Criminal Invetigation Detection Group in Kalinga for proper disposition.

3 vehicles collide in Abra; 2 drivers hurt 

LAGANGILANG, Abra – Two drivers were hurt in a collision of three vehicles here Tuesday around 7:45 p.m. along the Abra-Cervantes Road in Sitio Bantilidan, Barangay Taping.
A police repot said a Toyota Hilux driven by Jazheel Joyle Bobias Bobita, 21, of Barangay Patucannay, Bangued accidentally collided with a black Honda TMX motorcycle driven by Gabriel Gonzales Pataray Jr., 23, ADTEMPCO employee of Barangay Bangbangcag, Bucay and a motorcycle driven by Benson Damian Ballia, 27, of Barangay Tabiog, Bucay.
Investigation disclosed the Hilux was traversing the road from Sallapadan, Abra going to Bangued, Abra when it suddenly encroached the opposite lane, collided with both motorcycles then bumped into the steel barrier of the road.
As a result, the drivers of both motorcycles suffered injuries and were rushed to Abra Provincial Hospital for treatment while Bobita was unhurt. Responding police also brought Bobita to Abra Provincial Hospital for medical examination and is now under the custody of Lagangilang police.

 2 motorbike drivers hurt in Ifugao collission

AGUINALDO, Ifugao – Two motorcycle drivers were injured when their vehicles collided here at Barangay Ubao around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said one motorcycle was driven by Richard Jugiad Attabao, 25, CAFGU member, with back rider identified as Neneng Balajo, both residents of Barangay Posnaan.
The other with a sidecar was driven by Andy Lamogen Baguan, 41, with his back rider Jubert O Bagiw both residents of Barangay Galonogaon.
Investigation disclosed both vehicles had a head-on collision when Baguan encroached the lane of Attabao. Both drivers were rushed to Potia District Hospital for medical attention.
Attabao had abrasions on his right knee and hands while Bagiw’s nose was smashed. He was later referred to Isabela Medical Center in Santiago City.
Both back riders were not injured.

Amputee beaten to death in Tuguegarao

TUGUEGARAO — A 49-year-old amputee was beaten to death by an unidentified suspect in this city on Thursday morning. 
Jose Banatao was found by his daughter Julie Ann Castañeda at past 5 a.m. near a convenience store in Barangay Linao East.
Castañeda said her father failed to return home the previous night after he went to the store to buy cigarettes. – Raymund Catindig

Man nabbed for selling marijuana to cops

BAGUIO CITY – An alleged drug pusher was nabbed here recently after selling drugs to undercover agents.
Clint Encarnacion, 30 was arrested for selling five sachets of marijuana leaves worth P5,000 to the city drug enforcement unit agents at Government Center, Military Cut Off.  
In Camp Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet, regional police director  Chief Supt. Rolando Nana said the arrested person was a newly identified drug pusher and user and not listed in the drug watch list of Police Regional Office Cordillera.
Inventory was conducted at the site in the presence of a prosecutor, barangay official, representative from the media and the suspect.
Encarnacion was brought to the crime laboratory office of  regional police office where he was tested positive for marijuana use.

 Jealousy drives man to hurt partner

BAGUIO CITY – Jealousy of his live-in partner for allegedly having a relationship with another man drove an unemployed man to severely maul the former.
A police report said the incident happened at No. 312 Purok Tennerace, San Vicente Barangay on complaint of the victim whose name was witheld against the suspect named as Mark Espenilla Herida, 36, both residing at same address.
Investigation disclosed that the suspect while under the influence of liquor had a heated argument with the complainant over his suspicion on the latter having relationship with another man. While in the heat of their altercation, suspect kicked the abdomen of the victim causing her to fall on the floor and continued kicking her inflicting injuries on different parts of her body.
The victim ran towards the bathroom but the suspect followed her and hit her using a plastic pail inflicting injuries on her hands.
Police responded at the place of incident which resulted to the arrest of the suspect.
