TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police recently uprooted and burned P1,050,760 worth of marijuana plants in Benguet
and Kalinga, the regional police office here at Camp Dangwa bared.
In
Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet on
Oct. 21 and 22, some 4,394 seedlings and 375 fully grown marijuana plants worth
P250,760 were uprooted in a plantation.
In
Tinglayan, Kalinga, some 4,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth P800,000 were
uprooted in Barangay Butbut Proper on Oct. 26, 2019. Police and narcotics
agents discovered the marijuana plants
also in a plantation.
No
marijuana cultivator was arrested in the operations while all illegal plants
were burned at the sites.
“The
eradication drives does not guarantee the elimination of marijuana plants in
such Cordillera areas because some residents still cultivate marijuana as
additional source of income, said
Cordillera
police director Brig. Gen Israel Ephraim Dickson.
He
urged marijuana planters to stop producing marijuana and to instead join
livelihood projects which local government units and non-government
organizations offer.
