VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur–
The Dept. of Interior and Local
Government in the Ilocos rolled out Constitutional Reform’s (CoRe) provincial
roadshow dubbed “Balangayan 2019 Constitutional Roadshow” recently here at the
Vigan City Convention Center.
The DILG, in
coordination with the Center for Federalism and Constitutional Reform (CFCR),
conducted the CoRe roadshows nationwide in the pursuit of raising public
awareness and secure substantial public support on the need to reform the
present Constitution.
Earlier, the
DILG has created the CFCR to push the campaign for federalism.
The CFCR will
act as the central office in the production and distribution of campaign
materials, such as pamphlets, presentations, and posters to be distributed
online and offline to barangays nationwide.
Willy De Vera
of the DILG in the Ilocos and regional project officer of the CFCR said the
main highlight of the provincial roadshows was the discussion of the new
version of the CORE to make the proposed government set-up easily
understandable especially to the marginalized.
CoRe has four
major objectives or pillars of messaging: Pagyamanin ang probinsya,
paluwagin ang Metro Manila(Enriching the province, outspan Metro
Manila); Gobyerno para sa tao, hindi para sa trapo(Government for the
people, not for the traditional politician); Bukas na ekonomiya nang lahat
ay may pag-asa(Hope for open economy for all); and Bagong konstitusyon
para sa bagong henerasyon(New constitution for the new generation).
Its priority
concerns would include providing more opportunities for the provinces to
develop, elect leaders who care for their constituents and further bring the
government closer to the people.
“Among the
activities of the provincial roadshows in Region 1 are CoRe media briefing,
town hall meeting, convention campaign with the leaders and members of the
multi-sectoral group, and CoRe talk with the students,” said De Vera.
The regional
offices of the DILG are tasked to implement the massive information and
dissemination of the project with the assistance of the regional and provincial
offices of the Philippine Information Agency nationwide.
The series of
events take its cue from the “Dagyaw” concept—serving as an avenue for the
participants to delve into government’s efforts on uplifting the lives and
welfare of the people through informing them about the various government
projects that are in line for them.
In Ilocos
Region, the Balangayan 2019 Constitutional Roadshow was conducted in the
provinces of Pangasinan on October 20-23 and in Ilocos Norte last November
14-15.
