KABAYAN,
Benguet – Police led by town chief Cpt. Peter D. Camsol Jr partnered with the
local government through Councilor Ghislyn Marave in a program dubbed “Adoption
of indigent family” to help those most in need during Enhanced Community
Quarantine(ECQ) to curb the spread of Covid-19.
This
initiative involves the identification of an indigent family or individual who
will receive relief goods for a period of time.
Identified
initially as recipient based on economic profiling was 74 year old Simeona
Alperes, a farmer of Barangay Pacso.
A
widow with poor health condition and living alone as his only
child was murdered years ago, and with no known immediate family members, she
earns a through daily labor at a farm.
“Since
the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, farming which is the
main livelihood of this municipality was in some degree restricted and has a
limited operation. As a result, Alperes services was no longer required and
essential to the farmers, hence, no source of income to pull her through this
time of crisis,” according to a facebook post of the Kabayan
police.
On April
1, Camsol, Marave and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer
Edilyn M. Pacatiw delivered to Alperes relief goods such as rice,
canned goods, condiments and other food essentials from the LGU
and pooled voluntary resources from the local police.
A continuing undertaking during
the ECQ period, a new family will be identified weekly as recipient of relief
goods, said Marave adding she will suggest to the local government
programs to adopt to help alleviate and sustain the living condition of the
recipients who are less fortunate. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)
