Abra funeral owners, workers trained on handling Covid-10 afflicted bodies


BANGUED, Abra -- The Abra Provincial Health Office held a training provincial training on proper handling of bodies which died due to Covid-19 virus for funeral services managers and owners including rural sanitary inspectors of the 27 27 towns in the province.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Maria Cristina V. Cabrera discussed implementing guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) on proper procedures on disposal of Covid-19 remains.
“It is important for you to be aware of the WHO guidelines and procedures on Covid-19 cadaver disposal as a preparation just in case Covid-19 death counts may rise.” Cabrera said.
The PHO invited Dr. Filemon Porciuncula from the Regional Crime Laboratory Office-CAR as guest speaker.
He discussed safety procedures for deceased persons infected with COVID-19.
Dr. Porciuncula also discussed the categorization of precautions for handling and disposal of dead bodies based on the mode of transmission.
Abra health officials reminded health care workers and mortuary staff preparing the bodies to wear personal protective equipment   according to standard precautions.
