Ifugao records 1st Covid-19 case: Stranded folks can’t go home yet


LAMUT, Ifugao -- The plan to bring home students and ‘no work, no pay’ workers stranded  in and outside the province after the end of the enhanced community quarantine on April 30  is postponed  indefinitely  with the  province recording its first COVID-19 case last April 25. 
Governor Jerry Dalipog issued on  April 25 an official statement  informing that  a 65 year old man from Lamut  tested positive of COVID-19 ,  and that the provincial government is initiating  measures  such as contact  tracing,  disinfection, COVID testing , among others. 
In view of this development,  Dalipog stated that “ the plan and intention of bringing home our stranded kabobleyans from  outside and within the Province, is now indefinitely suspended  pending the improvement of the situation.”
He  assured that the provincial government in coordination with municipal local governments and the Office of the Congressman  will extend  assistance to those  stranded due to the ECQ.  
As of April 25, the Haggiyo Incident Command Center received and listed more  than 3,000 stranded Ifugaos consisting of students and displaced workers.
The provincial government through the Provincial  COVID-19 Task Force has already  provided 1,833 with financial and relief assistance. The remaining individuals will be validated through various means for possible assistance.
In the meantime, Dalipog  reiterated to the public to continue with preventive measures like frequent handwashing, social distancing, wearing of facemasks outside of residences and practicing proper  cough etequitte.
Meanwhile, Lamut Mayor Mariano Buyagawan, Jr. immediately mandated all barangay officials to establish their respective barangay checkpoints and to inform their constituents to stay at home and wear face mask. (JDP/PIA CAR,  Ifugao)
