Events set for 33rd CAR founding anniversary

BAGUIO CITY – President Duterte has declared July 15 a special non-working holiday in the Cordillera Administrative Region to mark the 33rd anniversary of the founding of the CAR.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the CAR be given the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies subject to community quarantine, social standing and other public health measure.
Proclamation 977 declaring the holiday was signed on July 7 by Salvador C. Medialdea, executive secretary in behalf of the President.
The month-long celebration highlighting the CAR’s thrust for regional autonomy will turn high gear on July 15.   
Themed “One resilient Cordillera: Embracing the new normal towards recovery,” the Regional Development Council (RDC) will host several online events to showcase Cordilleran resilience.
RDC officials said every year, the Cordillera region unites as one to celebrate its foundation and renew the call for regional autonomy.
This year’s celebration will “highlight how regional autonomy will enable the preservation and strengthening of Cordillera culture which is the foundation of the region’s resilience and socio-economic recovery,” said a press release from the National Economic Development Authority-CAR.
“Best practices in COVID-19 response exhibited by the different provinces and Baguio City will be featured online together with a virtual conference on the Cordilleran’s indigenous knowledge and practices relative to epidemics.”
Cordillera Day on July 15 will be celebrated through a small group program by the RDC which will be shared via social media.
A Kapihan on the State of the Region and sectoral reports is also slated for July 29, to apprise Cordillerans on the impact of the Covid-19 health crisis on the region’s development and proposed strategies for recovery.
Regional agencies will also host online seminars and localized small group programs for the series of investment opportunities fora.
Held earlier were “Bouncing back: Adapting business to the new normal” by the Dept. of Science Technology-CAR on July 2 and “Forum and demonstration on vacuum fried veggies” by DOST-CAR on July 7.
“Poultry and egg production with Kadiwa on Wheels” will be held by Dept.  of Agriculture-CAR from July 14 to 30.
“Start and improve your business: Food processing and production of washable facemasks” will be held by Dept. of Trade and Industry-CAR on July 22. “E-commerce: Platforms, logistics, and FinTech” by DTI-CAR on July 22 and business resiliency forum by DTI-CAR on July 29.
This year’s celebration is led by the RDC economic sectoral committee.
