SABANGAN, Mountain Province -- For Aboitiz
Power, environmental sustainability is more than just providing Cleanergy, its
brand for renewables. It is a long-standing commitment to taking good care of
the environment through responsible business operations and strong partnerships
with its host communities.
As a result of these efforts,
the company’s run-of-river hydro business unit Hedcor was recognized by the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Mt. Province as an
active partner in the National Greenery Program, as well as in establishing,
maintaining, and protecting the forest plantations in Upper Sabangan and Upper
Bauko in Mt. Province.
To date, Hedcor has planted
over 300,000 trees in Mt. Province.
Majority of these are fruit bearing trees, which
not only help in carbon sequestration but also serve as sources of food and
livelihood for the locals.
All the trees planted also serve as water
aquifers or part of soil stabilization measures. In total, Hedcor has planted
more than 3,000,000 trees with an 89% survival rate since 2004.
Apart from reforestation
initiatives, Hedcor and its community partners are also actively engaged in
other environmental sustainability programs such as Watershed Management
Program; River Clean-up Drive; Information Education campaign; Farmers’
Training and Biodiversity Programs.
Hedcor takes pride in its
continuing commitment to advancing business and communities while protecting
the environment.
For the Sabangan Hydropower
Plant, the first hydro facility in Mt. Province, DENR’s recognition highlights
Hedcor’s contribution to the community.
The 14-MW Sabangan Hydropower
Plant delivers 55 gigawatt hours of Cleanergy to the Luzon grid annually. –
