SAN FERNANDO CITY – The province of La Union recorded one new Covid-19 case and three recoveries on Aug. 2 as the number of cases reached 93 in the province.
La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega III announced the new case of the province was the seventh case of Aringay town.
He said the patient was a 40-year-old female from Purok Sanyo 3 in Barangay San Antonio, an overseas Filipino worker bound for Hongkong.
She had travel history to Metro Manila to process her pre-departure requirements.
Her medical examination revealed she was positive of the virus. She is now at the municipality’s isolation facility.
Meanwhile, the governor announced the recovery of three patients.
One patient from Aringay was discharged from the isolation facility, another from Bauang was discharged from Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City, while a patient from Bauang was done with home quarantine.
He said the two new cases reported on July 1 from Barangay Panicsican in San Juan town were taken off from the official tally of the province as they were reported in Manila.
Contact tracing is still being done to detect and isolate contacts of the said cases.
“The sporadic resurgence of cases, not only in our province but in the whole nation and the world, depicts how crucial this health crisis we are facing,” said Ortega. “This challenge calls for our strengthened unity and cooperation.”
The governor cited need to follow official community quarantine guidelines and practice minimum health standards.
“While we wait for the appropriate medical intervention to be available, we keep our vigilance and discernment in place,” he said.
As of July 2, La Union had a total of 93 cases, 36 of which were active cases, 49 recoveries, and eight deaths.
Seventeen of the 20 local government units in the province have recorded COVID-19 cases while the towns of Santol, Bagulin, and Burgos remain to be Coviud-19 free. -- JCR/JND, PIA La Union
