MP execs assail slay of anti-corruption advocate

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan and provincial officials urged constituents to work together in attaining peace and harmony in the province amidst divided views and sentiments as a result of the killing of anti-corruption advocate Salvador Guitabao Liked.
Liked was gunned down by two assassins in front of their abode in Balintaugan, Bauko night of Sept. 2.
Before the Leonardo Pacsi Command of the New People’s Army issued a statement on the killing, wild and unfounded suspicions on who killed and planned the murder flooded all information mediums within and outside the province.
“It may not have been explicitly mentioned but there were insinuations that officials of the provincial government were among the suspects in view of the allegation that Liked was killed after filing charges against some officials and employees relative to the 35.4 Bayanihan Fund granted by the national government to combat Covid-19,” the governor said.
The governor admitted that being among the possible suspects was devastating.
“It hurts. Inayan adi,” Lacwasan answered when asked how he feels being alluded to as among the possible suspects.
In a statement dated Sept. 9, 2020, Magno Udyaw, spokesperson of the Leonardo Pacsi Command said Liked was killed because of land-grabbing and blackmailing activities that victimized his “kakailyans”.
“I hope the statement will end the pointing of fingers. It is time to put our efforts together and work for the common good,” an official who refused to be identified reiterated.
The governor, however, said that Liked’s efforts will not go in vain.
He said that he was willing to cooperate in the ongoing investigation related to the utilization of the Bayanihan Fund.
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution condemning the murder of liked.
This, after the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines issued its statement saying that “no person deserves to be killed for any reason.” Liked was instrumental in soliciting donations for the construction of the Anglican Saint Martin Church in Balintaugan.
