BONTOC, Mountain Province - The municipal
government has started the Search for the Most Outstanding Sangguniang Kabataan
(SK) in 16 barangays of this capital town.
This, after the
Sangguniang Bayan passed an ordinance institutionalizing the search known as
“Gawad Sa Huwarang Pamamahala ng Kabataan Award” on promoting and practicing
principles of good youth governance in barangays.
The “Gawad Sa Huwarang
Pamamahala ng Kabataan Award” aims to recognize deserving SK which have
demonstrated exemplary performance of their duties and functions that greatly
contributed to the achievement of sustainable and inclusive socio-economic
development in their respective communities.
It is a continuing
commitment of the SK to continually improve their performance. Also, the “Gawad
Sa Huwarang Pamamahala ng Kabataan Award” shall serve as a monitoring and
evaluation mechanism on policy compliance of the Sangguniang Kabataan.
The incentives to be
given to the Gawad Sa Huwarang Pamamahala ng Kabataan Awardee include a plaque
and P30, 000, P20, 000 and P10, 000 for the first prize, second prize and third
prize, respectively.
A committee chaired by
Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey was organized to ensure proper, effective, and
efficient implementation of the “Gawad Sa Huwarang Pamamahala ng Kabataan
Award”.
The criteria for
selection of candidates in the search included leadership, management,
creativeness and innovativeness, integrity, transparency, accountability, and
ethics and values.
Recognizing the
important role of the youth in nation-building, the mayor immediately approved
the ordinance and has allocated P100, 000 for this purpose.
The ordinance was
sponsored by Municipal SK Federation President Sherwin Chamkas.
