KIBUNGAN,
Benguet -- About 15 families in a remote village here will soon have their own
electricity through solar energy.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority provincial director Vilma Cabrera and staff travelled to Barangay Badeo here to witness opening of the 8-day training recently with installation of solar panels in the residences by trainees as output.
After the training, Cabrera said the recipients were expected in turn to make this as their source of livelihood and install solar panels also in the neighborhood.
Dubbed SILAW which stands for Solar Installation among Locals to Alleviate their Welfare, this energy project was seen to enhance economic activities in the community through livelihood projects to uplift their way of living.
Silaw in the dialect means light.
The TESDA-led project was under the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) in ending local communist armed conflict for depressed and far-flung areas or the so called geographically isolated and depressed areas (GIDAs).
