2 soldiers slain as NPAs snipe troops at Tubo, Besao border

TUBA, Abra – Two army soldiers were killed when a unit of the Agustin Begnalen Command – New People’s Army Abra sniped elements of the  72nd DRC Philippine Army in boundaries of Tubo and Besao, Mountain Province.
    The ABC-NPA said in a statement the NPA guerillas sniped the AFP troopers around 7 a.m. on Jan. 22 that resulted in the death of the two soldiers.
    A total of 14 bombs were reportedly dropped by the AFP in the area on Jan. 24 and 25,
    “The NPA on the other hand had no casualties despite the heavy retaliation of the AFP,” the statement said.
    “This tactical offensive is the third in the last month in Abra, in response to the AFP's unrelenting military campaign amidst the     Covid-19 pandemic crisis and even during the holiday season.”
    The aerial bombings reportedly damaged the environment, hunting grounds, pastoral lands, and upland farms of the Maeng and Agawa people in Tubo and Besao.
    The AFP has not made a statement yet on the matter.
