‘Bombing, strafing by gov’t troops terrorize MP villages’

BESAO, Mountain Province  - Continuous bombing and strafing by joint combat units of the 7th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police Special Action Force in Mountain Province this February have brought terror and great disturbance to communities here.
This, according to Magno Udyaw, spokesperson of Leonardo Pacsi Command - New People's Army Mountain Province.
In a statement sent to media outfits, Udyaw said a bomb was dropped Feb. 11 while four rounds of strafing was done in pasture lands here at Barangay Tamboan.
This was reportedly followed with nine rounds of strafing in the boundary of Besao, and Tubo, Abra, pasture land and hunting grounds of communities last Feb. 15.
"The bombing and strafing was done even if there was no armed encounter between government troops and the NPA this February in the province. It has only terrorized village folks and disturbed their livelihood,” he said.
Udyaw said, “after the successful tactical offensive by a unit under the Augustin Begnalen Command - NPA Abra, government troops dropped at least 14 bombs in the boundary of Tubo and Besao which killed a pasture animal.
According to Major Rogelio Dumbrigue of the 7th ID, bombing and strafing are reportedly standard operating procedures of the military with or without armed encounter with the NPA.
“This only means that they have no concern about the lives and livelihood of innocent civilians. These bombings and strafing is only meant to bring fear among the people," Udyaw added.
Udyaw called on people of Mountain Province to condemn such  acts of the AFP and PNP and demand indemnification for killed pasture animals, environment al destruction, and trauma experienced by the people.
The LPC-NPA urged Mountain Province folks to call for total stop of military operations in this time of Covid-19 pandemic.
