High fines for colorums; 3 impounded in Region 2

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan --- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)- Cagayan Valley Region has apprehended three colorum vehicles this March.
    Under joint administrative order No. 2014-01, operators of apprehended colorum vehicles are fined: bus, P1,000,000; van, P200,000; sedan, P120,000 and jeep, P50,000.
    Colorum vehicles according to the Dept. of Transportation are public utility vehicles (PUVs) that operate without franchises or are unregistered.
    Regional Director Edward L. Cabase said two colorum UVEs were apprehended by the LTFRB Enforcement Team in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya last week.
    Also, the director led the apprehension of a Foton Van Traveller along the Balete Pass, Tactac in Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya on March 10.
    The apprehension was implemented in coordination with town  police chief Capt. Angelo Dasalla.
    In an interview, Cabase said the apprehensions were manifestation of strong stand of their agency against colorum vehicles in the region.
    The director urged the public not to patronize colorum vehicles as there is no guarantee that colorum vehicles could be held accountable during accidents.
