BANGUED, Abra -- Rep.
Joseph Sto. Nino B. Bernos has tested positive for Covid-19 on March 24, making
him the fourth member of the House of Representatives to be infected with the
dreaded disease this month.
Bernos, chairman of the House committee on games and amusement, revealed his current condition in a press statement issued to media saying he received the result of his reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test Wednesday.
“Currently, I am
asymptomatic and undergoing home quarantine, as advised by my doctors. It is
unfortunate that despite following strict protocols, I have contracted the
virus due to numerous unavoidable commitments,” said Bernos.
He added: “I strongly advise those who have been in contact with me for the past days to take precautionary measures, observe possible symptoms and undergo testing to be sure of your health status. “
Bernos called for prayers not only for him but for the entire country as the pandemic has started to turn for the worse.
On March 17, Speaker Lord Allan Velasco declared a four-lockdown of the Batasan Pambansa complex after Covid-19 cases rose from 29 to 33.
Included among those who tested positive for COVID-19 were Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Anakalusugan Rep. Michael T. Defensor and Negros Oriental Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong.
