Jealous man sideswipes wife, male companion in dark alley in Pangasinan

AGUILAR, Pangasinan – A jealous man is set to face charges for sideswiping his wife and a male companion while driving his SUV at a dark alley here in Barangay Ninoy.
    SSg Reynante T. Abril, investigator on case identified the suspect as Justine Bryan Abad, an engineer who reportedly drove his car and attempted to ram it into his wife, 27-year-old Daisy Abad and his wife’s male companion.
    The incident happened night of April 28, just moments after Daisy and Dennis Jamm Dantay, 28, stopped along a dark alley in the mentioned area.
    The two were aboard a black motorcycle driven by Dantay.
Abad saw the two and immediately drove his car, a gray Mitsubishi Adventure in an apparent attempt to sideswipe his wife and Dantay.
    “Nagselos ang suspek ( Justine ) kaya sinadya marahil na daanan ang dalawa at nasagasaan pareho kasama ang kaniyang asawa,” Abril told.
    After the incident, Abad brought his wife to the nearest hospital but left behind the wife’s injured companion who was later on rushed to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital by responding authorities.
    Police are now readying charges against the SUV driver.

3 men held in Tabuk checkpoints for lumber


TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Three persons were recently arrested here at checkpoints on separate occasions and charged for transporting illegal logs. 
                A case for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines was filed against a man caught attempting to pass through a checkpoint with undocumented lumbers here at Bulanao morning of May 9.
    Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald Oliver Lee identified the suspect as   Ramon Libunao Rivera, 54, here of Dagupan Centro.
    Police reportedly flagged down an Elf truck driven by the suspect after noticing that the vehicle was loaded with freshly cut lumber.
    The arrest was made after he failed to show documents for the lumber.
    Some 52 pieces of lauan lumber worth P31,200 and vehicle used by the suspect were confiscated.
Rivera and the vehicle were brought to Tabuk City Police Station while the confiscated lumber were turned over to city DENR office.
Two men were arrested for illegal logging at a checkpoint here by CIDG and Kalinga police earlier on May 2.
Brig. Gen. Lee also identified suspects as Manny P. Masadao, 21 and Alfonso B. Masadao, 49, both farmers here.
According to the CIDG Kalinga/Apayao, they received a call from a concerned citizen regarding transportation of logs coming from the municipality of Pinukpuk.
This prompted them to coordinate with the Tabuk City Police Station to set up a checkpoint where lawmen flagged down a blue Hyundai Grace van after noticing lumber at the back of the vehicle.
When inspected, they failed to show documents or permit issued by the DENR that resulted in their arrest.
Confiscated from them were 17 pieces of Gmelina lumber worth P10, 650 including the van.
Suspects were brought to Tabuk City Police Station where charges for transport of illegal logs were filed against them.


Man in Baguio slay arrested in Bontoc

BONTOC, Mountain Province – The fourth most wasted person in the Cordillera facing charges for murder with no bail set was arrested at Barangay Mainit in this capital town on May 7. A regional police report said provincial and Baguio police nabbed Eugene Galingan Chopchopen, 35, of Sacasacan, Sadanga town. Regional policer director Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee said the suspect allegedly stabbed a man in a drinking spree at a videoke bar in Kayang Hilltop, Baguio City on Jan. 27.

Chopchopen had been wanted since 2019 following arrested warrant issued by Judge Maria Ligaya V Itliong-Rivera of Rregional Trial Court Branch 5, Baguio City.

Chopchopen was brought to Bontoc police station and later turned over to Baguio police. 


Cagayan barangay chairman shot dead

BUGUEY, Cagayan – A barangay chairman was killed in an ambush in Barangay Remebella here on May 8.
Police Senior Master Sgt. Arnel Tamanu, investigator-on-case, identified the victim as Renante Ritarita, 46, also a businessman and chairman of Barangay Fula, this town.
    Investigation showed that the victim was on his way home onboard his mini-dump truck at 4:45 p.m. after delivering soil for backfill to a certain Cesar Dumlao when two unidentified men armed wearing face masks appeared and opened fire at Ritarita.
    The victim sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body, killing him on the spot, while the suspects fled towards the national highway on board a gray Toyota Fortuner without license plates.
    Recovered from the crime scene were 16 empty cartridges for M16 rifle.
    Police here are pursuing the suspects who are believed to be members of a gun-for-hire group also involved in illegal drug activities and have alerted nearby police stations to conduct checkpoints for their arrest.
    Possible motives of the crime are land dispute and old grudge.
 

Ilocos councilor dies in Burgos motorcycle crash 

BURGOS, Ilocos Sur – A councilor of this town was killed after the motorcycle he was driving slammed onto a post here in Barangay Lucaban Tuesday afternoon. 
    The victim was identified as Floro Lingbaoan Balbalan, 68, resident of said barangay.
    A police report said it was around 5:30 p.m. when the victim lost control of the vehicle while traversing a curve.
    The victim reportedly went to a wake earlier in Barangay Mambug but left due to approaching rain and sped off.
    Balbalan was brought to Ilocos Sur District Hospital (ISDH) where he was pronounced dead due to injuries.
    The victim was reportedly not wearing a helmet when the accident happened
 


3 men evade cops; nabbed with 66 piglets

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur-Three persons carrying 66 piglets were nabbed Tuesday after evading a checkpoint here in Barangay Ballaigui.
    Suspects Quirino Quinto y Quindoy, (owner) 25, businessman of Don Alejandro Quirologoco, Caoayan town; Gregorio Medrano Jr., 30, driver and Rowel Angeles, 39, helper, both of Quezon, Cabugao, were captured by policemen who chased them.
        Reports said personnel of Provincial Animal Quarantine Office, and Sinait policemen nabbed suspects aboard an
Isuzu Elf truck with plate no. APA 3391) for violation of provincial ordinance 15-06 Series of 2015 known as "Animal quarantine ordinance of Ilocos Sur.”
        Police said the three suspects evaded the checkpoint then took another route to transport the 66 piglets.
        The suspects, truck and 66 piglets were taken under custody of Provincial Animal Quarantine, Sinait, for disposition, police said.
