BONTOC, Mountain Province – Winners of the Bontoc DRRM Skills Challenge 2022 were named after five teams competed in nine events that tested their skills in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
The events included question and answer, crossing the bridge, bandaging techniques, basic carries, collapsed structure rescue operations, basic knot-tying, extrication and spine board management, cardio pulmonary resuscitation and fire suppression.
Team Samoki emerged champion and will receive a cash prize of ₱10,000.
Team Poblacion will receive ₱8,000 while Team Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) will receive ₱6,000 as the 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
Meanwhile, Team Local Government Unit and Team Upland will each receive ₱5,000 as consolation prize.
In his message, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr. cited importance of enhancing skills of the youth in disaster preparedness and response.
He said these activities will not only allow the youth to practice and refresh their skills acquired in previous trainings but also an opportunity to socialize and strengthen their collaboration.
During post-evaluation, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Johana Padaen lauded the five teams for their active participation and encouraged them to share their skills with their fellow youth.
She added aim of the activity was to enhance and evaluate participants’ skills and knowledge of basic life support and standard first-aid.
In response, participants expressed their
gratitude to the Bontoc LGU through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Office for realization of the activity as it helped them refresh
their skills and become more alert during actual emergencies.
Participants were Sangguniang Kabataan (SK)
and KKDAT members who requested and underwent trainings on mountain search and rescue.
Facilitators included the Bontoc Emergency
Response Team, Bontoc Municipal Fire Station and Bontoc Municipal Police
Station.
