BAGUIO CITY — The Commission on Elections
(Comelec) here is calling on lawmakers to conduct consultations first before
proposing to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections set
on 5 December 2022.
Comelec Baguio Election Office John Paul Martin said that the voters should be consulted and should have a say on whether to postpone or push through with the Barangay and SK elections.
The last barangay and SK elections was in 2018 and the next polls was supposedly in 2020, but was scrapped.
To recall, proposed House Bull 1637 authored by Davao Oriental Representative Cheeno Miguel Almario seeks for the postponement of the elections to 9 October 2023.
He argued that there should be enough time to prepare for the polls as the country is still recovering from the effects of the pandemic.
