BAGUIO CITY – The Dept. of Health in the Cordillera Administrative Region said the region is seeing an increasing trend in Covid-19 cases with double digits in daily cases compared to two months ago.
Based on the Covid-19 daily tracker on Monday, July 11, the DOH-CAR logged 18 new cases, bringing to 169 the total active cases.
Baguio City has now 115 active cases, 41 in Benguet, seven in Mountain Province, three in Apayao, two in Abra, and one in Ifugao.
“Covid-19 cases are increasing, in May, the number is less than the digits with only one to two or even zero cases recorded each day,” said Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, assistant regional director of the DOH-CAR and the agency’s spokesperson in the region.
As of the first week of June, the trend has started to change with about eight to nine cases daily.
In July, the number further went up.
Pangalinan said health care utilization rate remains low with most of the cases being asymptomatic and have opted to do home isolation.
She said among the factors for the increase is the mobility of people, considering the lessening of restrictions on travel, the conduct of super spreader events, and the waning of the immunity of the people.
She added that there are still many residents in the region who have not received the anti-Covid-19 vaccine and some of those who have complete vaccines have not returned for their booster shots.
Based on the July 11 regional vaccination data, the region has fully vaccinated 1,212,818 of the 1,481,793 target adult population.
