5 druggies held: P1.5-M marijuana plants burned

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Five “drug personalities” were arrested in buy-bust operations in Baguio City and Kalinga on Nov. 22 to 23.
    Reports reaching Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Mafelino A. Bazar identified the arrested as Edwin Carolino Jacinto, 25; Timothy Kyle Yan, 21; Gilbert Allan Magat Legaspi, 32; Fernandez Bayog Samuel Jr, a.k.a “Deol”, 37; and Heartlee Amoga Balicao, 20.
    In Baguio, Jacinto was arrested in Barangay Alfonso Tabora after he sold shabu weighing around 0.40 grams worth P2,720 while Yan was arrested in Sanitary Camp, Trancoville after he sold shabu weighing some 0.48 grams valued at P3,264.
    Still in Baguio City, Legaspi was arrested in Lower Malvar St., Trancoville after he sold shabu worth 0.13 grams worth P884 to a cop.
    In Kalinga, Samuel Jr. and Balicao were arrested by elements of Kalinga police and Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit after they sold suspected “shabu” weighing around 0.8 grams valued at P5,440.00 to a cop.
    Inventories of confiscated items was witnessed by representatives from the Department of Justice, media, and barangay officials.
    The suspects and confiscated “pieces of evidence” were brought to concerned police stations.
Suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
    Meanwhile, a total of 7,520 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth P1,504,000 were discovered and burned in Benguet and Kalinga.
    In Benguet, 1,520 marijuana plants worth P304,000 were discovered and burned by operatives of 1st Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company, PNP Special Action Force, and Bakun town police in Sitio Legab, Barangay Kayapa.
    In Kalinga, police burned some 6,000 fully-grown marijuana plants valued at P1,200,000 they discovered at a plantation in Barangay Ngibat in Tinglayan town.
