Bontoc execs start anti- ‘cracker drive

BONTOC, Mountain Province – The first day of December marked start of the nationwide observance of Oplan Paalala - Iwas Paputok 2022, an annual fire safety campaign for the yuletide season.
    In this capital town, simultaneous blowing of horns and a motorcade were conducted by the Bontoc Municipal Fire Station, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Police Station, Provincial Department of Health Office, Bontoc General Hospital, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College criminology interns and volunteers to kick off the month-long activity.
    Acting Municipal Fire Marshal Bartolome Cacamo said active participation of  community folks contributes to promotion of fire safety in the municipality.
    Vice Mayor Eusebio Kabluyen who represented Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., appealed to the public not to use firecrackers this holiday season but use alternatives to fireworks such as noise and light-producing devices like car horns, bells, or pans to prevent injuries.
    Meanwhile, Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Diga Kay Gomez seconded the vice mayor’s message and expressed high hopes for zero firecracker-related accidents  this year.
