Mayor orders probe on folks discharging wastewater in creeks

By Aileen P. Refuerzo

BAGUIO CITY -- Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered an investigation into reports of residents discharging their wastewater directly into creeks.
The mayor tasked the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) under lawyer Rhenan Diwas to immediately launch a probe in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).
The mayor said he received reports on the sordid condition of the waterways and creek traversing barangays Sta. Scholastica, Hillside and Camp 8.
"I was told that most of the houses situated along the creek in these barangays are illegally discharging their waste water directly to the creek.  The surroundings are also littered with trash," the mayor said.
“This repulsive behavior of some residents is absolutely unacceptable.  All those responsible should be charged criminally for polluting the rivers,” the mayor added.
