BAGUIO CITY – The jail for males here had 408 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) as of December 14, this year, with majority jailed due to illegal drug violations and rape.
This was reported by Jail Insp. Kevin Pecay during the 4th quarter city anti-drug abuse committee meeting Dec. 14, at City Hall led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and councilor Jose Molintas who chairs the local legislature’s committee on public safety, peace and order council.
He said 242 PDLs or 59 percent of the crimes committed are in violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 while 59 or 14% were incarcerated for rape and 27 or 6.50% for the crime of murder.
Rounding the top five crimes committed during the period are theft with 21 PDLs caught or 5.29%; and homicide committed by 13 of the PDLs or 3.12% of the crimes committed, Pecay said.
As to the mode of release of PDLs due to RA 9165 for the 4th quarter of 2022, he said 16 or 44 percent are on bail; eight acquitted, 22%; six served sentence, 17%; four were dismissed, 11%; and two of the PDLs or six percent are on probation.
Pecay said a total of 71 PDLs are currently undergoing face-to-face outpatient drug treatment and rehabilitation (ODTR) at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center while around 25 undertook the drug dependency examination (DDE).
