BAGUIO CITY -- A transient house here in Purok 4,
Gibraltar was issued a cease-and-desist order from continuing business
operations due to lack of business permit which is in violation of section 2 of
tax ordinance no. 2000-001.
The management of Good Shepherd Products – a nationally known pasalubong brand in Baguio, called the attention of Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong asking for assistance after receiving several complaints against a guesthouse misrepresenting their trade name and tarnishing their reputation with bad reviews from their clients.
In response to the complaint, personnel of the Permits and Licensing Division under the City Mayor’s Office immediately inspected the guesthouse and found that it has been operating without a business permit and even using the known Good Shepherd tradename by attaching it to its online ads in apparent violation of Intellectual Property rights.
“Accordingly, this guest house is tarnishing the good name of the complainant due to the guesthouse's bad reviews and calls to the latter from dissatisfied and frustrated clients of the former, like issues on sanitation, location, no parking, poor services, among others,” Permits and Licensing Officer Allan Abayao said.
The PLD coordinated with the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) and conducted an immediate inspection on a Sunday. The owner was issued a notice of violation and was advised to cease and desist from its operation until issued with a business permit.
The guesthouse owner was also advised to immediately remove his online advertisements as it is apparently using a known trade name in advancing the business which causes confusion of clients. – JMPS
