Man driving truck eludes cops; nabbed

TUBLAY, Benguet -- A case for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines was filed against a man  for attempting to pass through a checkpoint with undocumented pine lumber worth P104.000 here on May 11.
    Based on report submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo Jr., the suspect was identified as Rheygan Sote, 21, resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet.
    According to the report, police officers of Tublay Municipal Police Station, police signaled an Elf truck to stop before the checkpoint along Halsema Highway in Barangay Ambassador, but driver turned back prompting the police officers to chase the truck until they caught up with him along the road going to Barangay Labey, Tublay.
Police inspected the truck and found pine lumber loaded inside.
    They asked the driver for documents about the pine lumber but he failed to show any prompting police to arrest him.
    Confiscated from the suspect were pine lumbers with a total of 400 pieces of 2"x3"x10’, with a volume of 2000 board feet, and an estimated market value of P104,000.
    The arrested suspect is now under the custody of Tublay police station while the vehicle used were brought to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office in Buguias for disposition.
