130,000 Cordillera women to be immunized by DOH

BAGUIO CITY– More than 130,000 women in the provinces of Abra and Benguet are being targeted for immunization by the Cordillera office of the Department of Health against tetanus toxoid to strengthen their immunity against tetanus during pregnancy or while giving birth to their children.

The campaign for massive tetanus toxoid immunization for women aged 15 to 40 will specifically focus on maternal and child health to help achieve the country’s commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals of significantly reducing maternal and child death by 2015.

The tetanus toxoid immunization project is part of the DoH program to provide decent health care and enhance the capability of health units in the Cordillera region.

Benguet and Abra were chosen to be the areas where the massive tetanus toxoid immunization because the said areas have low tetanus toxoid coverage over the past several years.
