Ifugao gov inks agreement with station for reserve oil

By Dan B. Codamon

LAGAWE, Ifugao--After its bad experiences during the past two powerful storms that hit the province that rendered roads impassable roads and isolating some towns, the provincial government here inked an agreement with the Eastern Gasoline Station to reserve fuel for purposes of relief operation by the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The agreement was forged between Gov. Eugene Balitang and Eastern Gasoline Station of Lagawe manager Jose Man Singh after the SangguniangPanlalawigan gave the governor the authority to make this contract.

The urgency of this agreement was precipitated when the bridge along the national highway located at Barangay Dugong which is a vital link of this capital town to the outside world collapsed and cutting-off trade and commerce with the neighboring towns of Kiangan, Lamut, Tinoc, Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo and the nearby province of Nueva Vizcaya.

The power outage and bogging down of communication networks also highlighted how supply of fuel is necessary in maintaining a good disaster management and relief operation to stabilize the situation.

The agreement provides that the gasoline station must reserve the following amount of fuel for the different PDRRMC member agencies: DPWH-10,000 liters; Ifugao Electric Cooperative-5,000 liters; National Food Authority- 2,000 liters; PNP- 1,000 liters; Provincial Engineering Office-5,000; Provincial Local Government Unit-1,000 liters and PDRRMO-5,000 liters.
