Bontoc folks bothered by ‘endless solicitations’

By Juliet B. Saley

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Solicitations by groups and individuals for personal ends or “cause-oriented” projects has gotten the ire of local folks and officials here bothered and tired by the seemingly endless appeals for monetary or other forms of donations.

To address this, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan recently passed a resolution setting policies on solicitations by groups which even included local government units.

This move was prompted by the observation on the  growing number of solicitors which often created confusion and disagreement due to amount and types of donation given.

So now, based from the resolution  of the  SP chaired by  Vice Gov. Simeon Lacwasan, individuals particularly those seeking medical assistance are required to submit medical abstract and endorsement from their respective Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices.

People’s organizations and non-government organizations seeking assistance for their activities should  also submit a permit issued by the MSWDO  while LGUs seeking assistance for their activities shall indicate in their solicitation the purposes of their activities, names of the beneficiaries, period covered by the solicitation, and name of the authorized persons conducting solicitation activities.
