TUBLAY,
Benguet -- Some 110 Secondary School
teachers in Technology and Livelihood Education from the districts in the
Division of Benguet recently attended a
three-day training program at Tublay School of Home Industries here to upgrade
their skills as TLE teachers in garment and food trades and to make them more
creative and globally competitive.
With the theme
“Upgrading skills, improving lives,” the TLE skills enhancement training
for secondary school teachers in food trades and garment trades under the
supervision of Dr. Balbina C. Apili aimed to sustain the momentum that the
DepEd has built and anticipates a more challenging demand for skilled teachers
in the technical-vocational components of the K-12 curriculum.
Dr. Apili, the division
education program dupervisor in TLE/EPP (EdukasyongPangtahananPangkabuhayan)
expressed her inspirations and positive views on the program of the DepEd embarking on a
continuous skills enhancement training of its teachers to improve level of
instruction, empower them and provide better avenues for quality life.
The trainers’ training
activity was a parallel program of a training activity held for elementary
school teachers last April.
Highlights of the training
were sewing of lady’s blouse, creative children’s wear, commercial cooking,
food processing, fruit and vegetable carving, baking, technolympics and TESDA
assessment for the National Certificates I and II.
The training culminated with
30 other participants who underwent and passed the trade test, except for seven
who have yet to submit for another assessment for certificate of competency
leading to NC II.
TESDA assessors were Elena
Dagdag and Ponciana Mateo.
The participating TLE teachers
from tech-voc schools were WillianaBato and Lorna L. Lino of Benguet State
University-Bokod Campus; Pedrina C. Pacis, Rosa L. Padillo, Emilia C. Tello,
Gerarda T. Cayacay, and Rosalinda Alimba of Tublay School of Home
Industries.
The members of the
implementing team who helped Dr. Apili were Pablo Khayong Jr., principal
detailed in Benguet as TLE and sports
coordinator; Margarita Lamsis, senior training specialist of TESDA-Benguet
and EstanislaoTagtag, head of TSHI.
