CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Two
Abra officials and a Benguet security guard surrendered firearms to the police
last week, in what regional police officials said, was a result of their
“Kontra Boga” program to recover loose firearms in the Cordillera.
Regional police director Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong said
barangay officials of Maoay, Bangued, Abra headed by their chairman
HonoratoBalla surrendered a Cal. 22 rifle to police August 19.
He added two days after, Tineg, barangay officials of
Poblacion and Agsimao headed by chairman Jayson Tingday surrendered and M16
rifle to town police headed by Insp. Jaime kalngan Bang-i.
A security guard, identified as John Mark S.Topi, 35 of
Cervantes, Ilocos Sur and at present residing in Tabangaoen Balili, La
Trinidad, Benguetsurrendered a 9mm pistol August 20, at La Trinidad police
station in Benguet province.
Based on police record, the firearm was given to
Topi as collateral for his unpaid debt amounting to P2,000 in 2010 and
since then, the firearm was not claimed which prompted him to surrender it to
police authority.
