VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — The Abra Electric
Coop. is still awaiting the P20 million loan assistance from the National
Electrification Administration (NEA) for the strengthening its operations.
Abreco’s general manager Loreto Seares Jr. said Wednesday that Abreco, which
has downsized its labor force, is still left hanging over developments on its
NEA loan for the retirement benefits of its employees. Abreco is hoping its
loan from NEA would help resuscitate the ailing cooperative back to life. Local
power cooperatives, especially those facing financial difficulties are
expecting much from the NEA with its new charter signed by President Aquino in
May, 2013. -- Freddie G. Lazaro
