ITOGON, Benguet -- A laborer was buried alive
while his three companions were seriously injured in a landslide here in
Barangay Loacan Tuesday.
Police said Eugene Balao, 24, died at the scene.
Rescuers brought Alexander Morca 52; Vincent Pal-a, 30, and Lordan Mayawen, 20, to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.
Reports said the victims were clearing a private lot with a bulldozer when the mountainside gave way due to continuous rains.
Authorities warned local folks to take precautions considering some areas of this mining town are landslide-prone particularly during heavy rains.
Around a hundred persons were buried alive here while at the height of Typhoon Ompong when a mountainside, loosened by heavy rains caved in some years ago.
