Nat’l ID system set in Kalinga

By Peter A. Balocnit

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga - - The Philippine Statistics Authority has started phase  2 of the Philippine Identification System or PhilSys ID national registration in  in the province.
PhilSys Step 2 registration is ongoing   for residents of Cabaritan, this city,  Liwan West in  Rizal  and Taga in Pinukpuk  who completed step 1 registration.
These barangays are those with high poverty and no internet connectivity.
Step 2 involves validation of documentary requirements and getting biometric information of the registrant such as fingerprints, iris scan and facial recognition.
Provincial Statistics Officer Maribel Dalayday said there are 849 registrants from Cabaritan being served by a team at the PSA registration center while mobile registration is being held at the Rizal Tourism Center for 2,252 registrants of   Liwan West and at Taga barangay hall for 2,294 registrants of Taga.
She said one to four years old children are covered under step 1 registration but will not proceed to step 2 since there is a tendency that their biometrics change as they grow older.
Randolf Laderas, also of PSA-Kalinga, said they are prioritizing registrants who had undergone step 1 registration by schedule in every barangay following health protocols.
“We may entertain and cater also to walk-in applicants for as long as the registration center is not fully booked during the day,” he said.
He advised clients to follow the “No facemask/faceshield, no entry policy and to bring black ballpen and supporting documents    so as not to delay the transaction.”
PSA-Kalinga surpassed by seven percent its target under Step 1 of the registration process in assisted barangays. -- PIA Kalinga
