Kaelco ups rate by P0.4682
TABUK, Kalinga – Power bills increase by P0.4682 in the province covered by the Kalinga-Apayao Electric Coop.
The new generation rate was based on Energy and Regulatory Commission order dated Feb. 16 implemented by the National Power Corporation – Genco to the coop in its March 2009 billing.
Kaelco information officer Clifford Alunday said the increase will be reflected in generation charges and transmission delivery charge.
He said the transmission rate adjustment was approved by ERC implemented by Transco to the coop in its January billing due to approved estimated connection and residual sub-transmission charge.
According to Kaelco notice of NPC increase, the new transmission charges per Kwh on residential houses is 1.6818 from 1.5736 or an increase per Kwh of 0.1082; commercial – 1.7073 from 1.6064 or an increase per Kwh of 0.1009.
He said Transco effected the power rate increase due to the corresponding price increases of diesel used in their operations and maintenance. “The decrease in demand of power supply from Independent Power producers (IPPs) also caused the power rate increase,” Alunday said adding almost all generation companies applied for power generation rate increase.
In the case of Kaelco, Alunday said the cooperative has not increased its basic power rate since 1991. “Kaelco applied for power rate increase in the past but were never approved,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Kaelco announced it will hold its 18th annual general membership assembly on May 16 at 1 p.m. at the People’s Gym, Poblacion Centro, Tabuk.
The agenda: RA 9136 Sec. 41 on Guidelines and Procedures to implement Article 8 of Magna Carta on meter Deposit Refund for Residential Electricity Consumers; proposed board resolution to ERC on meter refund; amendments on policy of surcharge; proposed policy on road right of ways clearing.
Prizes would be raffled during the meeting -- Peter Balocnit
