65 PGMA scholars enroll at MP college

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Sixty-five trainees enrolled at Xijen College of Mt. Province this summer are beneficiaries of the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship (PGS) Program.

With implementation of the PGMA scholarship program, residents of Mt. Province now have wider access to services, including better opportunities for skills training and employment.

Under this scholarship program, the participating schools provides the training facilities, materials and trainers while TESDA pays the school fees and allowance of trainees.

Based on the data of the School Registrar of Xijen, of the total enrollees this summer, 20 are enrolled in Computer Hardware Servicing, 20 in Household Service NC II, and 25 in Call Center Agent.

The computer hardware servicing course requires 356 hours or 45 days training with a training cost of P6,000.00 and a training allowance of P2,700.00 per trainee; household service NC II requires 256 hours or 32 days training with a training cost of P5,000.00 and a training allowance of P1,600.00 while the call center agent requires 120 hours or 20 days training with training cost of P5,000.00 per trainee.

According to Dionisia Ospig, school tegistrar of Xijen, another batch of 20 each for computer hardware servicing and household service NC II are scheduled in August 2009.

Ospig said the first group of 18 trainees enrolled in household service NC II in this institution graduated last March and two of them are already employed as domestic helpers in Cyprus and in Macao.

Aside from conducting trainings to PGMA scholars, Xijen is also conducting ,under its regular program, summer classes on computer technician, computer secretarial, computer programming and basic computer, Ospig added. -- Juliet B. Saley
