BAGUIO CITY -- Out of 16 finalists who were awarded as Outstanding Students of Cordillera Administrative Region (OSCAR), ten were qualified to represent the region in the upcoming national search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP).
The top ten qualified OSCAR awardees are as follows: Grace Lyn G. Carboro (BSU), Ephraim V. Domingo (IFSU), Sheila Marie L. Magat (SLU), Cheston B. Ceriaco (BSU), Wilmark J. Ramos (UC), Victor J. Atitiw (SLU), Myle Melody C. Daniels (STI College Baguio), Paul Joseph A. Nuval (BSU), Joey T. Simeon (UC), and Marianne N. Caluza (SLU).
The other six OSCAR awardees and finalists are Julius B. Maguiwe (MPSPC), Sheila G. Palopnot (AMA Computer College Baguio), James G. Ticgue (IFSU), Benjamin S. Chumacog (MPSPC), Lasinda Bawalan Pangsiw (UB), and Randy E. Ventanilla (UB).
The said event was held at the UC auditorium on May 22.
The regional board of judges were Dr. Ramon Santiago, assistant regional director of CHED; Dr. Osmund Belmonte, assistant regional director of DOST; lawyer Modesto Bahul, Jr., Baguio Election officer; Rey Abellada, hovernor- Rotary Club of Baguio Sunrise; and engineer Marivic Salvador-Empizo, OSCAR Alumna batch 2005.
The 16 finalists underwent formation program at Ifugao State University on May 17-21 where the participants shared stories and served the community.
The formation program which started on 2005 is a venue for young leaders to interact with and learn from and be inspired by one another. It is designed to encourage introspection and self-discovery, as well as to heighten awareness of the community.
Ronald Lopez, Formations head of OSCAR Alumni Community said participants gathered not to compete but to work hand in hand.
“TOSP is not to recognize individual accomplishments, TOSP is a call for action,” said Pamela Gracia Concepcion A. Layugan, National Chairperson-OSCAR Alumni Community during her talk.
The Cordillera had produced 110 OSCARS where the present awardees were included./-- Crislyn F. Balangen
