CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – The leadership of the Cordillera regional police office said they were opposed to frequent ceremonial burning of millions of pesos worth of seized marijuana plants since it is in direct violation of the provisions of the Clean Air Act and contributory to the worsening air quality in the region.
Instead, Senior Supt. Roberto Quinto Soriano, regional police chief of staff and officer-in-charge of the Baguio City Police Office, recommended that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordillera compost seized marijuana plants and bricks to prevent further pollution of the air that people breathe.
By doing so, compost fertilizer could be used for ornamental plants around the camp which will help in their beautification campaign.
Soriano said PDEA officials in the Cordillera must inform different special drugs court in the region on alternative way of destroying confiscated drugs aside from burning so judges will be guided. – Dexter A. See
