Tabuk City urban master plan okayed

TABUK CITY, Kalinga –A greater task awaits this city’s new set of elective officials as they face the challenge of setting up the urbanization of Tabuk with the recent approval of the its 50-year Urban Master Plan.

Approved by the City Development Council last May 21, the UMP is centered on developing Tabuk as a primary agri-industrial growth center in Kalinga and the Cordillera,

In his message, Tabuk mayor and CDC chairman, Camilo Lammawin Jr. urged newly elected officials to put value on the endeavor, it being the road map of Tabuk towards prosperity.

He said all barangay development plans the next 50 years should be based on the master plan for the city to have a harmonized and coordinated direction.

The plan which started in September 2008, he said was planned to enhance capabilities and potentials of all city barangay.

He said if successful, the plan will not only benefit the people of Tabuk and Kalinga but would also invite more investment eventually bringing better development opportunities in the region.

With the approval of the master plan, he said that the task of initiating the plan now lies on the hands of the new officials.

In her presentation of the approved plan, City Planning and Development Coordinator Maricel Killey pointed out that the scheme will capitalize on developing Bulanao and Dagupan as the industrial and business centers of the city.

Development activities will include enhancement of agricultural and natural resources potentials of the city and introduction of efficient infrastructure development.

She also cited need for an organized urban development sustaining environmental quality in the endeavor.

In support to said development, the City Council has ensured that the needed ordinances will soon be in place guaranteeing the strict implementation of the UMP.
